Is It a Man's World???

Making the decision to enter the "entrepreneur" game, is HUGE!!!! Why? Even with the best, well thought out plan, nothing goes according to schedule. We build up our excitement in the planning stages and once we start executing the business plan, discouragement begins to set in.
Obstacles appear, some more manageable than others, and as a woman, it can become emotionally draining. I often look at my male counterparts, since they are the predominant figures in my industry (transportation) so it is easy to incorrectly categorize this draining feeling as, "if I where a man, would this be happening"? Maybe, maybe not.

There is no guarantee that your success and/or failure are directly tied to your gender. Are you well versed on your subject matter and able to properly articulate your position? Do you command the attention in the room, or do you allow the room to take over you? Are you dressed to impress? Did you remember your business cards? Did you make the mistake and reveal you are the owner?

Longevity in ANY business depends upon how much you want to succeed and what lengths will you go to in order to achieve your goal. One quote that comes to mind is, "you will have do something you have never done, in order to have the things you never had" or something close to that effect. The bottom line is, don't get discouraged. Many feel the hardest part of being a business owner is opening the business, and reality is, the hardest part is remaining in business, so don't let petty things like race/gender distract you!!

There are many women based organizations to encourage, mentor and motivate the woman owned business. There is the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce on the national level, and many local groups, such as Black Women's Network which help put you in contact with other women business owners in your community and also offer free to low-cost trainings and networking events, to name a couple. You will find many fellow business women who experienced the same fears as you and will serve as a mentor to help you stay focused and motivated!

Some of you may be pondering whether or not to go into business for yourself, and do not know how to get started or what necessary steps to take. I am provide consulting services to startups, and you can schedule a free consultation by clicking on the appointment book icon on the right->>>

Keep in mind that in the business world, it is tough for everyone, man or woman. Men don't have the benefit of using their seductive powers, curves in the right places and the "pouty" mouth to seduce their male contacts, so remember to use these "basics" to enhance what your selling/offering. It's the equivalent of adding lip liner or eye liner to enhance your lips/eyes. So yes, it is a man's world, but would be NOTHING without a WOMAN!!!
