Patience...It's a Virtue!!

Owning your own business can be very rewarding: flexible schedules, being your own boss and most importantly, controlling how much money you make. Well, lets look at controlling.

In simple terms, control means you have a direct effect on its outcome because you dominate, in the business world, the reality is, you don't!

You CAN control how much you charge for your product/service, what you will/won't sell, you may even have a target market that you will ONLY cater too, however, you have no control over how and when you will make your money.

It will definitely take time to make your business what you want it to be. You will have good days, better days, and on occasion, the worst day ever. Sleepless nights wondering, "what did I get myself into" or "what was I thinking" and this my friends, is the reality you will face, daily.

Going into business for yourself is risky, especially if you have children to provide for. My suggestions, especially if you're not able to hire someone to help you, is to maintain a job, preferably part-time so that you may supplement your income. Most times the business will take care of itself, and when you need that extra cash to pay a bill or two, you have your part-time job to back you up.

This is also the perfect time to take up yoga. Once you have taken a few classes, you will see that during that hour, the only thing you are able to focus on is yoga and performing the poses. Everyday you need to take at least an hour out of your day to clear your mind and NOT think about the business. Yoga is relaxing and a great way to get your body in shape. Even if you find that going out to partake in this activity becomes hard to maintain, you will be savvy enough to practice at home. Me, well I am practicing yoga and I also write (this blog) to clear my mind. It is also a way to help others understand what running your own business is like, from a practical standpoint.

No one said it was going to be easy, but you must remain flexible, determined, focused and PATIENT!!!
